Contested claims in the GTA 6 cycle

A contested claim has at least one entry in its evidence chain that contradicts another. The verdict applies regardless of confidence score; a high-confidence claim with one contradicting source still sits at contested until the chain resolves. The desk keeps the confidence score visible so the reader can see where the contradiction landed.

A contested claim moves back to confirmed, corroborated, or watching when the contradicting entry is retracted, clarified, or proven downstream of an unrelated source. It moves to killed when the contradicting entry is itself tier 1 and the original anchor is overridden. The state_history on each claim card records each transition with a note.

Contested is the only verdict on the ladder that does not have a numeric band. The band on either side is whatever the underlying confidence score reads when the contradiction resolves: a contested claim at confidence eighty-five can return to confirmed; a contested claim at fifty can return to watching. Adjacency is through the score, not through the contested label itself.
